How to Analyze your Skills in EmployRI

EmployRI contains a skills analyzer that allows you to enter your skills based on your occupation or manually select skills from the complete skill set. Skills are based on O*Net Coding which breaks down all occupations into major and minor skills needed to do the job. From your skills, you can determine what jobs you are qualified to perform, as well as which skills you are lacking.

There are 14 major skills categories as well as numerous sub-skills categories. Once you select and save your skills, you will be able to refer back to your personal profile, modify the skills as you receive training and use them to assist you when writing your résumé.

To begin analyzing your skills:

  1. Visit https://www.employri.org from any computer with internet access. Enter your username and password at the top right hand corner of the screen and click Sign In - you must be a registered user to access the skills analyzer

  2. From the left side menu, select Career Services, then Career Tips.

  3. The Skills Analyzer is under Step 1 - Self Assessment; you can then click on Match your Skills or Match your Occupation.

If you click Match your Occupation, you will be prompted to enter the occupational title. Once entered, click the Continue button and a list of skills will be displayed. EmployRI will then prompt you to save these skills to your profile.

  4. If you select Match your Skills, a new web page will display all the skills broken into 14 categories

  5. Click inside each box that represents your skills. Go through each tab (General Skills, Computers and Mathematics, etc) and each sub skill category.

  6. When you finish, click on the Save Skills and Continue blue button at the bottom of the page.

  7. A list of all the skills you selected will appear; a box at the bottom of the web page will give you the option to Add these skills to your Skill Set - Click the blue Continue button. This will save your skills set.

  8. The skills analyzer will now ask how closely you want to match your skills; Moderately match is the default as illustrated in this image - click Continue or select a different button, then click Continue.

  9. A table of occupations will now be displayed with occupations that match your skills. The table is sorted by the percentage of skills matched. You can change how the table is sorted by clicking on the column heading you want to sort.

Each occupational title is linked to the Occupational Database in EmployRI that can bring you to job openings, wages, job projections and other important information about the occupation.
